Investigates nonhuman primate biology and diseases with particular regard to the study of human health problems.

Serves as a regional and national resource and center of excellence for biomedical research using nonhuman primates.

Educates the general public about the critical link between basic research with animal models and improvements in human health.

In addition to having strong internal research programs, the TNPRC serves as a regional and national resource and center of excellence for biomedical research using nonhuman primates. Read more.

The purpose of the Pilot Research Program is to provide funds to investigators who show promise of developing a strong career in nonhuman primate biomedical research or who wish to add a nonhuman primate component to their existing research programs. The program is also open to investigators with established research programs using nonhuman primates who wish to develop substantially new research directions. Read more.

Significant results from our vibrant research programs have led to growth in research funding and expanding facilities. A major focus of our work is on developing vaccines, treatments and diagnostic tools for infectious diseases such as AIDS. Lyme disease. malaria and tuberculosis. Our infectious disease research has been significantly augmented by the new Regional Biosafety Laboratory as well as expanded local and national collaborations.

The TNPRC also has strong programs in regenerative medicine that utilize vector-based gene therapies and stem cell-based interventions for genetic and acquired diseases.

The TNPRC has been responsible for many important scientific discoveries in its over-forty year history. Our scientists have been honored with prestigious professional awards and our facility has been given many research awards .
