Today, I would like to write about some ways for you if you have not been to Tainan(or Taiwan) before. And this post is mainly for those who have never been to Taiwan and don’t speak Mandarin/Chinese. The setting of the route I am providing will start from the International Airport of Taoyuan (Mostly the first place you arrive in Taiwan). Feel free to let me know if you have any problem.

The fastest way to Tainan is through Taiwan High Speed Railway. taking around 70-80 minutes from Taoyuan Station to Tainan Station. The station is not close to the airport, but you can, without much effort, find the shuttle bus(takes around 15 to 20 minutes) at the lobby in Taoyuan International airport.

Besides, taking intercity buses is another choice for you. There are some bus companies which have the operation on the route in the lobby, such as Ubus. Hohsin and Kuokuang. Most of them usually stop by Taichung city and then head to Tainan. And usually it takes more than 3 hours on bus.

At last, you could get to Tainan by taking train. Compared to high speed railway, there are two obvious differences: one is the location of each station and the other is the time needed on transportation. You need to spend much time taking bus from the airport to get to Taoyuan train station, on the other hand, you can reach so many cities, even small towns, in Taiwan by taking the train.

This time in order to take the flight in the early morning to Japan, I had to check in at 5 am. There are a variety of methods to get the airport if you go in day time, such as intercity bus, train and high speed train. However at midnight the only way for you is taking TAXI, if no one would drive you.

Taoyuan International Airport, the biggest airport in Taiwan, is situated at sub of Taoyuan county, within a hour driving from Taipei, the capital of the island. The airport opened for commercial operations in 1979. In 2010 it handled a total of more than 25 million passengers.

I would like to recommend a way, which is more economical. That is, take the Hohsin Bus(和欣客運) to ChungLi station(中壢站), and then notice the receptionist. No fixed time, but one shuttle bus per hour even at midnight. And it takes approximately 20 minutes.

On the other hand, if your flight arrives at Taoyuan airport at midnight(later than 10:30pm) and miss the shuttle bus to HSR, this is also a recommended way. If you don’t want to spend much on transportation.
