Fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise. Write the vocabulary words on the left half and the definition for each word on the right half. Turn the paper over. Write the definition on the left half and the word on the right half. Turn the paper over. Look at the vocabulary words. Give the definition for each word without looking at what you've written. Repeat until you've memorized the words.
Create a flash card, using 3 x 5 index cards, for each vocabulary word and definition. Write the vocabulary word on the front of the card; it's definition on the back. Read the word and give the definition or vice versa. Continue until you've memorized the words.
Memorize vocabulary words by association. Make up a story about a particularly difficult word or think about something you associate with the word. For example, if the word is "persuade," think about an instance in which you persuaded your parents to buy you a new bike or vehicle.
Study with a partner. Ask the partner to show you a word on one of your flash cards. You give the definition on the back of the card. Conversely, the partner can give you the definition and you can answer by naming the vocabulary word.
