Lt. Col. (USAF Retired) Raymond J. Deveau, 93, husband of Marion F. (Diebner) Deveau, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage, died Friday May 6, 2011 at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly.

Born in Beverly, he was son of the late John B. and Mary Ella (Thibault) Deveau. Raymond is a graduate of Beverly High School. Raymond is a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. He is a Veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Raymonds family lived in many parts of the world during his military career, including Maine, California, Puerto Rico and South Dakota. During WWII he distinguished himself as a bomber pilot in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater, serving in the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 13th and 15th Air Force, also while stationed in England, he flew with the Royal Air Force on an Exchange Basis flying the famous Lancaster Bomber. After retirement, Raymond was employed by the Social Security Administration. He was an active member of the Earle T. Wardell Post 12, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Raymond also volunteered his time manning the Retiree Affairs Office at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. In his later years, Raymond enjoyed building model airplanes, gardening, swimming, and building a library of opera albums.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters: Lynne Meagher and her husband Francis of Beverly, and Joanne Polonsky and her husband Paul of Beverly; a brother: Melvin Deveau of Beverly; three grandchildren: United States Army Captain Kenneth Meagher and his wife Heather of Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, Mark Polonsky of Beverly and Tammy Polonsky-Practico and her fianc Ed Broughton of Beverly; four great grandchildren: Connor and Loralai Meagher of San Antonio TX, Madeline and Melissa Pratico of Beverly, and another one on the way this August; a grand daughter-in-law Sandy Meagher of Fall River. He is predeceased by his grandson Ryan Meagher; his great grandson Garrett Meagher and his siblings: Alfred, William, Francis and John Deveau and Catherine Salkins.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly Location) on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. A Visting hour will be held prior to the service from 10-11am. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made in Raymonds name to Operation Troop Support, c/o 16 Trinity St. Danvers, MA 01923.
