In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, and peace and blessings upon His final messenger, Muhammad, and upon his Family and Companions.

Rayyan Institute is an educational platform established to provide a relevant and inspirational Islamic learning experience to the global community.

We are a Canada-based nonprofit organization which provides Islamic education on the internet through authentic Islamic scholars who are well-grounded in a tradition based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) as understood by the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) and the Pious Predecessors.

The institute is firmly upon the creed of the Ahl al-Sunnah wa ‘l-Jama’ah and all our instructors are adherents to the famous Islamic schools of law named after their respective imams: Imam Abu Hanifah Nu’man ibn Thabit, Imam Malik ibn Anas, Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’i and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on all of them).

Rayyan Institute aims to educate Muslims in their religion in a manner that is easy to comprehend and practical to implement in their lives. Realizing the importance of proper Islamic knowledge in the lives of all Muslims, we offer a commitment to seekers of knowledge to give them the tools to become better Muslims and role-models for their families and communities. With us, seekers of knowledge put themselves on a path through which they can acquire Divine Pleasure and Divine Mercy, which are both priceless.

No living soul or inanimate object on the face of this earth and in the heavens can do without the mercy of Allah Most High. Therefore it is our vision at Rayyan Institute to inspire individuals to become true seekers of this mercy by being true seekers of knowledge.

And this (Qur’an) is a blessed Book that We have sent down. So follow it and fear Allah, so that you may be favored with mercy. (Surat al-An’am: 155)

Obedience to Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and give peace) entails submission to the Divine Commandments and steadfastness upon the Sunnah of Allah’s Beloved Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace). Without acquiring knowledge of the Shari’ah – the Qur’an and Sunnah – this remains impossible, hence the excellence and virtue of seeking knowledge has been oft-repeated in the Qur’an and Hadith with much emphasis.

In a famous hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him), the virtue of seeking of knowledge is expressed:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) say, “Allah will make the path to the Garden easy for anyone who travels a path in search of knowledge. Angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of pleasure for what he is doing. Everyone in the heavens and the earth ask forgiveness for a man of knowledge, even the fish in the water … (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

In another hadith, Divine Mercy enveloping gatherings in which Allah is remembered has been described as follows:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra and Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that they visited the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and he said, “Whenever people sit to remember Allah (Most High), angels cover them (spreading their wings over them), divine mercy envelops them, inner peace descends on them, and Allah Most High mentions them to those who are with Him.” (Muslim)

Allah’s mercy can also be sought through being merciful to others. This important principle is mentioned in a hadith narrated by Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr, in which he said: the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:

The Most Merciful One (Al-Rahman) bestows his mercy upon the merciful ones. Be merciful to those on earth, and those in the heaven will be merciful upon you.(Tirmidhi).

One of the most effective ways to be merciful to others is to teach them good and virtue as mentioned in a hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him). He reports that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

Allah, His angels and the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, and even the ants in their dwellings and the fish, invoke blessings on those who teach people virtue (Tirmidhi).

By furthering one’s Islamic knowledge and acquiring the Islamic sciences, one is able to become a means of guidance for others. He or she can become a means to convey the pure and pristine teachings of Islam to others and spread virtue. Calling others towards guidance and teaching them virtue invokes Allah’s mercy. Since we are all in dire need of Allah’s mercy and cannot live successfully without it, we at Rayyan Institute have embarked upon a path to seek His mercy by offering a platform from which good, virtue and mercy can be disseminated. We invite you to join us.

The mission of Rayyan Institute is to educate and enable individuals to become better Muslims so that they — by striving to become true servants of Allah Most High — can serve the intellectual and spiritual needs of their families and communities

One of the greatest challenges facing our communities today is that although people have the motivation to advance their Islamic knowledge, there is generally a lack of effort in seeing it through. This is due to a number of obstacles which we intend to remove.

The first obstacle is that people think it is difficult to acquire sacred knowledge. They think that you have to be in a certain place, classroom, masjid, or seminary at a particular time. How many times have you desired to join a class you heard about online but were unable to attend due to distance or schedule conflicts. Now, you have access to interactive, live and pre-recorded, sessions from virtually anywhere in the world and learn from some of the best contemporary scholars.

Another obstacle is the perceived difficulty in comprehending the subtleties and complexities of certain Islamic sciences. The aim at Rayyan Institute is to simplify our courses and make them easy to understand but without losing the nuances and subtleties of each science. Our teachers have experience in conveying their knowledge in a manner relevant to even the average Muslim.

We don’t believe in dry lectures. Our instructors make ample use the whiteboard to explain concepts in such a way that they become ingrained in the student’s mind with ease. Students are provided handouts and teachers will even use illustrations in the class to explain certain concepts.

All our instructors are qualified scholars and have graduated from reputable Islamic institutes of learning. Our instructors are also constantly involved in researching new trends and technologies to impart their knowledge.

We are committed to delivering the best possible education. Our commitment is to those who take out time to learn Islam, a commitment we will fulfil, insha Allah. With Allah’s permission, we aim to help our students become better Muslims and role-models in their communities, and to become akhirah-oriented, constantly seeking the pleasure of Allah Most High.

The Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) are our guiding principles in everything.

Rayyan Institute offers its classes in an online format, which means that all you need is an internet connection and a computer, tablet or phone (with speakers or headset) to attend a class from anywhere  in the world.

While the practice of learning in an actual physical classroom has been the traditional setup for centuries and will probably go on until the end of time, a lot can be achieved over the internet. Learning online is a worthwhile and useful option, even though not a complete replacement. We cannot deny that the robust physical interaction that can exists in a physical classroom setting between a teacher and student is irreplaceable. However, we attempt to duplicate this experience as much as possible in a virtual setting. What we lose though can maybe offset by several other benefits of online learning. These benefits are not always available in a physical format.

  • Learn at your own pace – With the option of reviewing recorded lessons and handouts at a time of your choosing (and not only when the schedule dictates), you can learn at a pace that you are comfortable with. You can no longer let scheduling conflicts hamper your Islamic learning goals.
  • Learn at a location of your choosing – You could be on vacation somewhere or even at your grandmother’s place, far from where the instructor or classroom is located. It doesn’t matter. All you need is an internet connection to connect to our classes.
  • Repeat lessons – You no longer have to listen to the class once. After the live class is over, listen to the recorded sessions as many times as you like in the semester. Go over them until you get it right.
  • Impediment free focused learning – You no longer have to worry about long or difficult commutes, curfews or weather. Study from the comfort of wherever you are and remain focused on your studies.

Therefore, we do not claim to entirely replace the classical setup of learning Islam but we do provide a robust alternative to those who would like to learn from home, at their pace and in an environment of their choosing. The classroom experience is brought inside your home through your computer or mobile device. The availability of a qualified Islamic scholar guiding you in an online class ensures that the student-teacher relationship which is fundamental in Islamic learning is maintained. Live sessions, forums and other communication platforms facilitate interaction and allow students to ask questions.

It is, and here’s how it works. It is not difficult at all to embark on your journey to Islamic learning.

  1. You select a course you wish to enroll in.
  2. Register for the course.
  3. Log in to the e-Learning portal and select the course.
  4. Review pre-existing course material such as handouts and pre-recorded sessions.
  5. Listen to the recording of the lesson as many times as you like if you think you missed something.

Combining classical methods of teaching with modern technology is a critical aspect of our methodology. We deliver our Islamic scholarly tradition by using cutting edge web conferencing technology that allows the student to acquire knowledge regardless of where he or she lives.

We offer subjects that are relevant. Our team of experts design and develop each and every course to the minute detail. We take the educational and intellectual needs of the worldwide Muslim community very seriously; hence, our focus on detail.
