Winner of the Canberra Blues Society 'Best Blues Group' award for 2007, 2008 and 2009, plus winner of 'Best Female Vocals' in 2008.
Mama Gaye Reid is the new powerhouse voice on the blues scene after 25 years of performing jazz, rock and cabaret. Mama's Blooz House are one of the most vibrant blues bands around performing those saucy blues of yesteryear with the sassiness of today!
The band debuted at the 2008 Blues on Broadbeach festival to rave reviews. This hot 5-piece band has built up a great fan base since first bursting onto the scene in 2005 at the National Press Club. The band serves up a good time recipe of saucy blues and boogie with influences from Big Mama Thornton, Saffire Uppity Blues Women to Marcia Ball, Nina Simone, Koko Taylor plus several originals.
The band is receiving airplay on community radio blues networks around Australia and in the US. Eurobodalla Radio 107.5 2EAR FM featured 'Lets Play House' as the CD of the week promoting it as a "class CD… it's not the Mama that roars and cajoles live from the stage but a Mama whose voice slinks and sleazes like velvet. I'm betting this girl has had some serious musical training somewhere along the line and I do know that until she found the Blues she was highly regarded as a jazz vocalist. Well on this album I hear those cool jazz influences coming out. Great production and a tasteful band (aptly named 'Groove Kings'). The naughty lyrics contrast with the pure tones of the vocals. a truly enjoyable listening experience. All is well in the Blooz House."
Mama Gaye Reid's voice is commanding, her stage presence compelling and her audience easily identify with her heartfelt sentiment and witty lyrics.
Dave Blanken (Reverend Blooz, guitar) is one of Australia's outstanding blues guitarists. Dave bends the strings with a sting and his solos are jaw dropping! His distinctive style has seen Dave play and record with the Groove Kings and as a member of Blind Freddy, The Business and played with Lemon Squeezin' Daddies, El Caminos, Ali and The Violators and Doc Span plus many other notable names on the blues circuit.
Brian Taylor (Mo Blooz, double bass) spent 15 years on the Canberra blues scene playing double bass with Blind Freddy, Groove Kings and backed Doc Span. You'll love his big bass groove!
Leo Joseph (Dr Blooz, keyboard & vocals) - from Adelaide to Philadelphia USA, Leo's music career has spanned over 30 years that has seen him play with some of the finest USA players Randy Lippincott, Don Evans, Dave Kupperman, Lenny Fatigati. In Australia Leo has featured with the creme of blues players including Doc Span, Chris Mawer, Glen Terry to name a few! A great frontman in his own right, in Mama's Blooz House he holds the keys together with great boogie woogie style.
Mitch Preston (Uncle 'Herring' Blooz, drums) is well known on the festival circuit and one of the most in demand drummers around. He has played with Foreign Lee & the Legionnaires, Lemon Squeezin' Daddies, the Groove Kings, Doc Span, Chris Mawer, Ali Penney, Glen Terry.
