Reader David N sent over a bike that I wasn’t familiar with – apparently California Motorcycle Company (best known for making official replicas of the Captian America/Billy Bikes as well as producing Indians for a few years) also made a limited run of bikes as a tribute to none other than Evel Knievel. I’ve seen different estimates of production (ranging from 50-500, though the latter claims that just 70 were built). Either way, it’s definitely a limited edition. But how much is it worth?
I’ve got two options available for you today. First, this pristine example that was signed and ridden by Knievel in 1998. This is #25 of the limited run, it has 2,000 miles and is claimed to be completely stock. The tank dash plate is numbered and signed by Evel – the seat was signed by him as well. To preserve the latter signature, the bike comes with an extra seat. This bike is being offered by Tom Bryan, a former professional cycle jumper. Find this signed example for sale here on Craigslist in Millstone Township, New Jersey for $50,000.
Or…if you don’t need Knievel’s signature, #27 is also available. It’s pictured with an alternate set of skins but the original bodywork is included. The bike is being offered by the original owner and a much cheaper price. Find the un-signed example for sale here on Craigslist near Appleton, Wisconsin for $13,000.
