Description: If you’re looking for real versatility then the Jaguar X-Type Estate has all the space, luxury performance and refinement you need. The original X-Type was introduced in 2001, but the Jaguar X-Type Estate didn’t enter the market until 2004. At that point, the X-Type underwent a makeover and the estate version reaped instant rewards with elegance and simplicity. Despite having a roomy tailgate and being one of the most practical models in the Jaguar range, the Jaguar X-Type Estate is still powerful and a pleasure to drive. It may be the best of both worlds – cutting out the drudgery of day-to-day motoring.

A very good car overall. Admittedly I bought it with just over 100K on the clock and at 5 years old, so, I’ve been replacing replacables over the past 18 months. However, to its credit, it has never let me down. The bills aren’t stupifying, but with all the consumables replaced, they have been a bit dear altogether. We are talking about clutch, DMF, rear suspension, power steering and water pump, accessory belt tensioner/ crank pulley, plus various other bits and pieces. A fair old whack. It gives about 40mpg overall. I use it for both short and very long distance trips. It drives nicely enough and handles all weathers well including snow and ice, depsite being FWD, although I do have winter tyres for it. The back seat isn’t that spacious, so it’s a good thing it’s my 3 year old that sits in the back as anyone older would not be very happy after a while. The overall trim quality is acceptable. It’s a bit of a Ford thing with a Jag badge, but I don’t care. I like it overall. I’ll keep it, polish it and make sure it looks nice and new until it gives up the ghost on me. Mind you, considering all the things replaced, it’ll be with me a while (I hope!).

I was surprised at how refined the car sounds and how well it drives. It’s extremely smooth and easily powerful enough for motorway driving. It is spacious enough for me which is also a surprise as I am 6’ 7" and 18 stone and very comfortable to drive. One tiny niggle, turning on the heated rear windscreen knocks out radio reception somewhat, but overall an excellent car.
